Seems like we’ve been removing asbestos from our homes and other buildings for a long time, doesn’t it?

But, with asbestos having a 3,000 year head-start and still being produced up until the year 2002, it may be a while before we are rid of this stuff for good. There are several different classes of asbestos and they are a naturally occurring substance. Since it is natural, we are all exposed at certain degrees but such small quantities does not pose a risk to most of us.

Asbestos is naturally occurring in rock. The technical term is ultramafic rock – a type of igneous rock and it is often found near fault lines.

The other piece that plays a part in the scenario is that not all installations of asbestos are dangerous. In fact, sometimes, it is more dangerous to remove it than to just leave it be. Asbestos becomes an issue when it can give off dust – the dust is inhaled and settles in the lungs where it causes irritation and disease.

The best thing to do is leave the asbestos alone no matter where you find it. Contact a trusted professional, like Advanced Health & Safety to test and remove it for you carefully and safely.
